We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. (Rom 12:6-8 NIV)

Prayer: LORD, I am grateful for the spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities You have given me. I know they are not only for my own enrichment and benefit; You gave them to me for Your purpose and plan for my life. I want to be a good steward of these things. Do not allow me to be selfish, arrogant, or begin to think that they are about me or my abilities. Help me use what You have given me to accomplish Your purpose in my life. The Spirit that we received is not a spirit that makes us slaves again and causes us to fear. The Spirit that we have makes us God’s chosen children. And with that Spirit we cry out, “Abba, Father.” (Rom 8:15 ERV)

Prayer: LORD, I know You as “God”, “Creator”, “Heavenly Father”, and “Lord”. I want to know You as “Abba”–“Father”, “Papa”, “Daddy”–childlike, as Your child that I am, deeply personal, and intimately close. Help me learn to rely on You as a little child relies “Papa”. Thank You for making it possible for me to know You, love You, and trust You with everything that concerns my life. Help me entrust my life to You in the bonds of intimate, personal relationship. “At that time I pleaded with the LORD and said, ‘O Sovereign LORD, I am your servant. You have only begun to show me your greatness and power. Is there any god in heaven or on earth who can perform such great deeds as yours? Please let me cross the Jordan to see the wonderful land on the other side, the beautiful hill country and the Lebanon mountains.’ “But the LORD was angry with me because of you, and he would not listen to me. ‘That’s enough!’ he ordered. ‘Speak of it no more. You can go to Pisgah Peak and view the land in every direction, but you may not cross the Jordan River. But commission Joshua and encourage him, for he will lead the people across the Jordan. He will give them the land you now see before you.’ (Deu 3:23-28 NLT)

Prayer: LORD, I am not gracious when I do not get what I want. expect, or think I need. Instead of being offended, help me accept Your decisions even if I do not agree with them at the time. I know You Your decisions are always right regardless of what I think or want. No matter how much I complain, do what is best in Your sight and give me grace to accept it. One Minute Message™ Scripture and Prayer for May 8, 2023:

Then the priests blew the trumpets, and Joshua yelled: Get ready to shout! The LORD will let you capture this town. But you must destroy it and everything in it, to show that it now belongs to the LORD. The woman Rahab helped the spies we sent, so protect her and the others who are inside her house. But kill everyone else in the town. The silver and gold and everything made of bronze and iron belong to the LORD and must be put in his treasury. Be careful to follow these instructions, because if you see something you want and take it, the LORD will destroy Israel. And it will be all your fault. (Jos 6:16-18 CEV)

Prayer: LORD, I find myself in a grip of desire at times. I see something I want and think I have to have it. When I am in that grip, do whatever You need to do to get my attention because I want to do the right thing. I do not want to give the enemy an opportunity to devour me. Give me strength and courage to walk away from anything or anyone, anywhere, anytime You say so. You have a future for me and I could ruin it by going after the wrong thing. Fools talk way too much, chattering stuff they know nothing about. A decent day’s work so fatigues fools that they can’t find their way back to town. (Ecc 10:12-15 MSG)

Prayer: LORD, while I have no ambition to be the smartest person in the world, help me never be a fool. You are the source of wisdom and I want my words and actions to reflect the wisdom I learn from You. Teach me, therefore, to live wisely and enable me to gain greater understanding. Can anything separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble, suffering, and hard times, or hunger and nakedness, or danger and death? I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love–not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord! (Rom 8:35,38-39 CEV)

Prayer: LORD, the only thing that can keep me from You is me! Help me love You and accept Your love for me. Help me draw close to You and allow You to be as close to me as You desire. Help me rest in the assurance that You loved me before I knew You, You love me now, and You always will. Help me to be expectant of Your intervention in my life and circumstances and not become complacent if Your next amazing thing seems long in coming. You disgraceful nation, gather around, before it’s too late. The LORD has set a time when his fierce anger will strike like a storm and sweep you away. If you humbly obey the LORD, then come and worship him. If you do right and are humble, perhaps you will be safe on that day when the LORD turns loose his anger. (Zep 2:1-3 CEV)

Prayer: LORD, You have spoken harshly to people in the past. Are we no longer accountable to You for our actions today? We are, if I understand Your Word and Your ways. Help us humble ourselves before You and acknowledge that Your decisions are just–whether we like them or not. We are accountable to You as individuals and as a nation. Begin with me. Do whatever You need to do in me first as an individual; then do whatever You need to do in us as a nation to bring us back to You in humility and accountability to You for our actions. Then Felix, who was well acquainted with the Way, adjourned the proceedings. Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” (Acts 24:22,24-25 NIV)

Prayer: LORD, help me never close my heart or mind to You. Surrender to Your ways over my own is seldom convenient. Though it is challenging, help me change my attitude and seek You with all my heart, regardless of convenience or cost. I want to be what You created me to be, not what the enemy desires to corrupt me to be. Do whatever You need to do to make it so.
